Do You Smell?

Most of us walk around every day with hundreds of toxic chemicals on our skin, from multiple "beauty enhancement" products.  In short, we smell.  Mixtures of chemicals are combined to create each scent, and how many different scents do we have on in a single day?  Lets think about this...we get up in the morning and shower. Our hair is scented with the chemicals from the shampoo, conditioner and possibly we've used a scented soap, followed by strongly scented deodorant, mix that with body lotion with its own perfume, followed by body spray, powder (yes, some people use this), we get dressed and our clothes smell from detergent, then hair gel scent, hair spray scent....AND FINALLY....PERFUME/COLOGNE!  Pretty gross, and unhealthy if you ask me.  There are studies being done to determine the detrimental effects of these chemicals on your hormones and immune system. Not to mention those of us who are allergic to these perfumes (yours truly), and secretly hold their breath when you walk past.

Maybe I notice this more than most, being a Massage Therapist in direct contact with your skin.  I personally would rather smell your body odor, than be left with the headache that lasts the rest of the day from breathing chemical perfumes.  If I'm trapped in an elevator with you, it won't be claustrophobia, but perfumephobia that will make me take the stairs.
So how does one not fall victim to perfume ads, and realize perfume-wearers are actually a pariah to a lot of people who secretly can't stand the stink?  There are healthy alternatives out there...
  • Aubrey Organics line uses 100% (yes, you read that correctly) natural ingredients - no chemicals.
  • Some of Burt's Bees products are naturally perfumed.
  • Use UNSCENTED deodorant if you can find it.
  • Unscented lotion.
  • Skip body spray - what is this stuff but a marketing trap?
  • Use a natural perfume product or skip it.  http://www.bellasugar.com/Burt-Bees-Premieres-New-Natural-Solid-Perfumes-11763946
  • Try Aveda products for hair styling.

What are your suggestions for healthy chemical or perfume-free products?
